During the late 19th century, the Goelet Cup was recognized as the premier yacht race for American boats as the winner was selected to defend the America’s Cup, the oldest active trophy in international sport and arguably the most prestigious sailing race in the world. This photograph shows the Gloriana of the New York Yacht club competing in the Goelet Cup in 1892.
